Book Seven Facts |
These are the things we know for sure (unless J.K. surprises us) about the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series, based on things that have been said in interviews and information from the previous book, including book six.
1) It will be the final book of the series.
2) The events will take place between summer 1997 and summer 1998.
3) Voldemort will be defeated and we will know whether or not Harry survives.
4) There will be more deaths, possibly including villains this time.
5) The book will be called Harry Potter and the...
6) J.K. has already done some work on it, but she's not planning on really getting down to it until late this year or early next year. So there could possibly be another two year wait or more.
7) Harry will not go back to Hogwarts, but work to track down and destroy the remaining Horcruxes and kill Voldemort. Ron and Hermione will accompany him.
8) There will be no Quiddich.
9) Harry may change his career ambitions (presumably because he will not be taking his NEWTs).
10) J.K. has already written the final chapter of the book, as a guide for herself, but will probably re-write it when she comes to it. This chapter is an epilogue that says what happens to the surviving characters after the end of the book.
11) The last word of this chapter at the moment is 'scar'.
12) Harry will turn seventeen at the beginning of the book.
13) He will spend the time up until his birthday with the Dursleys (Ron and Hermione with him) before leaving them forever (presumably), and then visit Godric's Hollow and his parents' graves. He will also attend Fleur and Bill's wedding, before setting out on his quest for the Horcruxes.
14) We will learn why some people become ghosts and others don't.
15) We will find out something really important about Lily.
16) Hogwarts may or may not re-open. If it does, McGonagall will probably be Headmistress, there will be a new DADA teacher who most likely will not outlast the book (unless the jinx is broken, possibly by Voldemort's death) and there will be a new Head Boy and Girl from Harry's old class.
17) Everything in the books should be nicely tied up with nothing remaining unanswered or left hanging.
18) The possibility of an eighth book has not been completely ruled out, but is unlikely. J.K. made a kind of half-promise to Emerson from Mugglenet and Melissa from Leaky Cauldron about writing a biography of Dumbledore, but she may have been joking.
19) There will be more on how Dumbledore could have been so trusting of Snape.
20) We're going to see more of Umbridge, and she's going to be 'tortured' a little more.
21) J.K. said she couldn't tell us what Dumbledore would see in the Mirror of Erised and what his boggart would be, so this could come up in the final book.
22) The founders will play some part.
23) It will probably be shorter than Order of the Phoenix, but J.K. reserves the right to make it as long if need be. She has not yet planned it chapter by chapter, so she hasn't got a real indication of the length yet.
24) We will find out who R.A.B is for sure.
25) There will be more on the mirror Sirius gave Harry.
26) We'll find out more about Dumbledore.
27) We might go back to the locked room in the Department of Mysteries.
28) Lupin might have had feelings for Lily, J.K. declined comment, so presumably if he did we'll find out in this book.
29) The look of triumph in Dumbledore's eye when he found out that Voldemort used Harry's blood in the potion to bring him back will be important.
30) Snape has been loved by someone before. We might find out who by.
31) There may have been someone else present at Godric's Hollow the night Harry's parents were killed, and we may find out.
