| Main Page Welcome to As They Were Meant To Be. This is a fanlisting for people who love Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as they were created by Jo Rowling – in other words how they are in the books, not the movies.
HARRY POTTER: Harry is the main character of the series. His parents were murdered when he was only a baby, as the wizard who killed them tried to get at Harry himself. He grew up in a cupboard under the stairs in the suburban home of his horrible relatives the Dursleys, before receiving a letter inviting him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is generally described as small and skinny, although he grew a bit over the summer before his sixth year. He has untidy, jet black hair that sticks up at the back, bright green eyes behind round glasses, a thin face, knobbly knees and a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. While he has a temper which can sometimes cause him to act rashly and even violently, and he has a tendancy to blame himself when bad things happen to those he loves, Harry is brave, strong, determined, talented and has a great need to see justice done.
RON WEASLEY: Ron is Harry’s best friend, and the first one he ever had of his own age. The sixth of seven children, all of whom have red-hair and freckles, Ron grew up in the family home near Ottery St Catchpole, named The Burrow. While they are a rather poor family, all of Ron’s older brothers are smart and successful, which along with the fact that his best friends are both very talented, makes him feel inadequate and often affects his confidence. Ron is tall and lanky, with a long nose and big hands and feet. He is bitingly sarcastic, and while he can be a more than a bit insensitive at times, at others he is very good-natured, and he is fiercely loyal to his friends and family. Ron is also a good Quidditch player (when he's on form) and a champion Wizard Chess player.
HERMIONE GRANGER: Hermione, Harry’s other best friend, comes from an all-Muggle family. Her parents are both dentists. Hermione has lots of bushy brown hair, a bossy sort of voice and used to have rather large front teeth. She is quite pretty when she dresses up, but the impression is given of her usually being average. Bookish and bossy, Hermione is the smartest witch in her year and very militant about causes she believes in. She is resourceful and clear-headed in a crisis, but she can become over-emotional at times and she is often patronising towards Ron.
I love the movies, but I feel that while our favourite trio of young wizards started off almost perfectly in The Philosopher’s Stone, the characterisation of Ron and Hermione in particular has strayed seriously off at times throughout the film series. Ron has been downplayed and portrayed as wimpy, with most of the jokes being at his expense, though this was largely mended by David Yates in The Order of the Phoenix. His sarcasm, while not totally, has often been ignored or toned down to be less biting. Hermione has been made more perfect than in the books. Her flaws are almost non-existant. She has had moments where she has stolen the spotlight from other characters, including Harry but particuarly Ron. It's a shame really, because the actors could play them perfectly if directed to do so.
This is my opinion anyway. If you agree with me, or if you simply love our trio, then this is the fanlisting for you. Please read the rules before joining.
